Sensor Element Design for Aircraft Oil Pan Plug Replacement

The GA Alert system uses existing oil access plugs to engine, gearbox, hydraulic, and other oil containing systems.

  • The oil drain plug is removed and replaced with the Sensor element.

  • The Processor unit (size of a pack of gum) is placed inside the aircraft cockpit with the other instrumentation, HUMS, and radio equipment.

  • The Pilot display is an LED that is place on the cockpit panel near engine instrumentation.

  • Signal wires are ran with the existing wiring harness from the Sensor to the Processor unit and from the Pilot display to the Processor unit.

  • The Processor unit requires power (12 or 24 VDC) from a circuit breaker or fuse, 1 amp is sufficient since the unit’s current draw is 250 ma.

Each system is placed on the aircraft for monitoring of an engine, transmission, gear box and hydraulic system. All

systems can be link together and connect to a communication module for a single communications input of all oil

systems to a HUMS, other data collecting and or displaying devices.
